Am I a Wall-e-holic?

I confess: I love "Wall-E." I do. I've seen the movie approximately 1,000 times at this point because A loves it, too, and it still doesn't get old. I think it's one of the best movies I've seen in ages. It actually turns me into a non-cynical being when I watch it, quite a feat unto itself.

And I'm shamelessly buying into the merchandising. A owns a Wall-E computer (well, "computer"), books, action figures, and coloring books. So yes, I'm only feeding into the machine.

I remember the first time I saw Wall-E. I'd gotten it for A for Christmas and put it on one holiday morning, planning to doze on the couch while she watched it. I got so interested that I sat up, made coffee, and watched until the end. At one point, I told her to "hush" because I couldn't hear what was going on.

As I said, we've seen it tons of times since--usually twice a weekend, at least. And I still find it just as charming. I just don't know why. Maybe I'm a sucker, maybe I'm just glad he's not Dora/Diego/typical cartoon character. And I know it's not the Pixar deal--for example, I'm the only person ever, evidently, who hated "Finding Nemo." (Well, maybe not hate, but I just couldn't get over the mother and rest of the brood being EATEN in the opening minutes. Er, spoiler alert.) So maybe I'm just relieved that no mothers were injured in the making of this film (unlike "Bambi," "Dumbo," and all of the princess movies that are haunted by evil stepmothers.)

So that's my deal. Any other parents unnaturally attached to kids' movies?

Yeah---Wall-E was pretty cool. Probably the best of the Pixar bunch.

I have a soft spot for "Cars." Probably because half of the guys I went to school with remind me of Mater. Also, when Hannah and I were watching it in the theater, I told her, "Doc Hudson is an old Hudson Hornet---thus the irony." Turns out he was THE Hudson Hornet! Boy, didn't I feel smart! Hannah was unimpressed.

Of the Pixar cartel, "Finding Nemo" is probably the worst---next to "Toy Story" and "A Bug's Life." "The Incredibles" was awesome, due mostly to Samuel L. Jackson's "Frozone." And of course, Jack-Jack.

DreamWorks has had some good ones as well. In addition to Shrek, I also enjoyed "Over the Hedge" and "Madagascar." There's nothing quite like seeing Daddy rave-dance to Sasha Baron Cohen singing, "I Like to Move It Move It!!"

THANK you. I was starting to think I was the only person on the planet who didn't like Nemo. We do need to watch "The Incredibles."

LOL, Hannah was unimpressed...

We love Wall-E. It was the first flick Boo saw at the theater so it has an even more special place in my heart. I made a big deal when it was coming out on DVD - I think we started counting down a month before its release!

Nemo is horrible for the reasons you state. Boo is so sensitive that it's too crushing for her. It's just sad - the child is separated from the only parent. I do love Monsters, Inc. (where Boo got her nickname) but haven't let her see it in a while b/c of the whole monsters in the closet theme. I love Madagascar, too. We saw II at the theater twice. It's hard to find a "kid" move that isn't scary. Majority have a very scary villain. I told you I was a dumb ass and took her to see Bolt and she was crying b/c she was so sad Bolt was lost from his person, Penny. She was also scared of the villain. Oh, we love Toy Story - even though the neighbor kid is the villain, he isn't as bad as most. Have you checked out Adventures of Milo and Otis? Adorable! I actually watched it several times before Boo was even born.
